                     Lake Sidney Lanier

Lake Sidney Lanier is a reservoir created by the US Army Corp of Engineers.  Construction on the Buford Dam, which contains the resevoir, was started in 1951 and in 1956 Lake Lanier opened to the public.  Original cost of the project was 45 million dollars and since its induction the lake has produced 96 million dollars in electricity.
Lake Lanier's surface area is 39,000 acres and it has 692 miles of shoreline.  Its waters come from the combination of the Chattahoochee and Chestatee Rivers.  It is estimated that there are around 8 million visitors to the Lake a year.  The Lake is known for great Striper, Spotted and Largemouth Bass fishing as well as Crappie and Cats.
